This post is excerpted from our Footprint to Wings Newsletter of April 20, 2020
How have you been? I hope you are well.
I've been good. Just procrastinating on writing the "Preparing for a Good End of Life, Part 2".
Why am I procrastinating? Because, who wants to think about end of life?
Sure, at Footprint to Wings we pride ourselves on being candid; boldly taking on difficult conversations.
But when it comes down to it, I can avoid with the best of them.
Also, Pounce keeps distracting me.
The upside of procrastinating is: things come your way which make your work easier. In this case, I stumbled on some links which say the things I wanted to say, much better than I could.
Here are those links:
Are you looking for a medical directive geared toward the specifics of the coronavirus? Stewart Brand and his wife have a version you can check out. Feel free to decide differently. I'm still debating whether or not to use "Do" or "Do Not" in that paragraph.
Are you freaking out about burial trenches and trucks in New York? One of my favorite morticians has some reassuring perspective for you.
Are you looking beyond the pandemic, to general questions of dignity in death vs. medical machinery? Check out Final Exam.
One day, I will write the in-depth post that is lurking in my brain. Unless pesky mortality gets me first. Stay tuned for the post. Or, just wait for the movie. (Movie poster: Preparing for End of Life, Part II: 2 Good 2 End)
And just for good measure, here’s that link to Judy MacDonald Johnston’s TED talk on preparing for a good end of life again:
Judy’s talk does not get into detail about preparing a will, trust, or power of attorney. For that you’ll want to consult an estate planner.
Speaking of wills, as you think about your legacy, you may want to keep Footprint to Wings in mind. We’re a 501c3 nonprofit organization and if you like our mission, we’d be honored with your investment. Feel free to contact me to discuss this further.
